2024 – ongoing
This project attempts to look at an object in multiple time frames, multiple states of being, at the same moment. To question our ability to see and process the concept of movement as something both static and fluid. Therefore becoming both an examination of material, as well as a questioning of what can be considered truth, when looked at through the prism of abstraction, repetition, and manipulation of time. This question becomes all more important as we press forward into this age, where it becomes more and more difficult to tell what is true. Can we rely on what we see? The very essence of an object and its supposed objectivity comes into crisis. The question then becomes: how to take an instrument of “truth” and make it appear like something else completely?
As for works: in short, they are paintings of pencils.
The pencil is the first tool many of us use to record our life, experiences, our thoughts themselves. Our visual representation of our speech, our words, how we interact with each other, or what we think outside of the binds of language. But of course, this also means the pencil can fabricate reality as the user deems fit. The tool itself can be used for truth or falsity. An object that can create representations.
These pencils could be in motion, they could be a snapshot in time, or a physical structure that holds itself erect. There could be many pencils, or just different avenues in time of one pencil. They could be fulfilling personal micro-narratives, or working towards a larger history. Or, it could just be a whole lot of pencils.
